About Xiantong Zhu

Winner of 2 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal

Xiantong Zhu is an owner of the Resonance Violin Shop. He was a professional violin player at ZheJiang State Symphony Orchestra in China. Later, he developed an interest in violin making and thereafter attended School of Violin Making at the Shanghai Conservatory of music. After he graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory, he returned  to the Zhejiang State Symphony and remained there as the residence restorer and repairer for their instruments.

In 1990, He came to the United States and began his studies with Mr. Kotz, who studied in Cremona,Italy and is a winner of 9 Gold Medals for violin and bow making from Italy and VSA (The Violin Society of America).  After Mr. Zhu studied the Italian traditional violin making skills from Mr Kotz, his skills enhanced tremendously and thereafter received a Silver Medal from the VSA International Violin Making Competition -one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. In 1997, Mr. Zhu entered another competition-The Violin Makers Association of Arizona International Competition. During which Mr. Zhu was the only participant to be awarded 2 Gold medals in the category of Tone and Workmanship. Mr Zhu also recevied an award from the Markt Mittenwald German International Competition held in Mittenwald, Germany.

Mr. Zhu also studied restorations at the workshop in Oberlin College with Vahakn Nigogosian, a famous violin making and restoring artist that has worked on restoration on hundreds of Stradivari violins at the Sacconi Violin Shop in New York City. Mr. Zhu has worked at several violin shops before starting his own shop. He has great experience and has done countless repairs and restorations for professional musicians and students.

 


Our Violin Making Master Xiantong Zhu Receives the Silver Medal for Violin Making from the 12th VSA International Competition in 1996.

Awarded First Place in the Violin Making Workmanship category from The Violin Makers Association of International Competition in 1997, Arizona.

Awarded First Place in the Violin Making Tone category from The Violin Makers Association of International Competition in 1997, Arizona.

This award was received from the Markt Mittenwald German Competition held in Mittenwald, Germany
